Drag the handle, or focus it and use the arrow keys, to compare the same shoe before and after.
The transformation
Mesh lifted in stages to avoid pushing dirt deeper. Midsoles worked with a medium brush. Outsole tread cleared by hand.
Significant improvement across the upper. Faint shadowing remains where the mesh has permanently discoloured.
The record
A season-ticket holder who has walked the same route to the ground since he was eleven.
Bought for a birthday, then adopted as the match-day pair almost by accident.
Four seasons of standing, rain, spilled tea and away coaches. The mesh greyed, the midsole yellowed and the tread packed solid.
A staged deep clean. No attempt to bleach the mesh back to white. The aim was even, honest and clean.
Laces out and washed separately. Dry brush first, then a low-moisture pass across the mesh, then midsoles and outsole. Two drying stages.
Handed back at the same steps where the photographs were taken. The shape and colour came back further than expected.
Straight back into service for next season, with a protective treatment applied.
